SAPS goes mobile
SAPS Goes Mobile !
Venter Trailers was approached in 2010 by Captain John Maluleke to build mobile police stations. Captain John, as he is fondly called, is well-known for his role as the creator of the Inner City Ambassadors Football Club which serves to uplift street children through sport.
This new initiative to deploy mobile police trailers in the inner city of Johannesburg, was the latest initiative Captain John spearheaded. He marshalled a number of corporate sponsors to purchase these trailers on behalf of the police, and commissioned Venter to build them. The trailers were destined for SAPS Johannesburg Central and were unveiled in a public ceremony late in 2010.
Reception to the deployment of the trailers has been overwhelmingly positive. Julius Mpala a street vendor in Noord Street, said his business was going well and he no longer feared being robbed. Tony Mendez, the owner of a liquor outlet at the corner of Twist and Noord Streets, said. "It's a good initiative because we feel much safer since these mobile police stations were installed."
"We want to clear the streets of Johannesburg and reclaim a top position in the performing charts", said Captain John Maluleke from Johannesburg Central police station.
